Crocodile Breeding Centre

Gir Forest

This Centre was supposed to house crocodiles for breeding. It was required to provide a combination of land water at the base and a covered roof which allows for light and ventilation.

The roof of the building is a triangulated form which sits over a non-linear plan. The roof is perforated with varying sizes of circular holes resulting in interesting patterns of light and shade inspired by the patterns in the skin of a crocodile.

At times, the shadows from the perforated roof gives the perception of being under a dense foliage of a tree, providing a natural-like environment for the crocodiles inside.
